Book Formatting

About the Work.

If you like to be involved in the process and want to have input on the designs, I’m the book designer for you!

I work with self-publishing authors to help them achieve their publishing goals. The creative freedom that comes with working one on one with self publishing clients has been fantastic, as it allows for everyone’s goals to be reached.

I believe that a book’s interior is just as important as the cover design, and great care should be given to the interior. Good design melds the text and illustrations into a cohesive design that helps to keep readers of all ages and skill level engaged. I work to ensure that the reading experience is both effortless and free of distractions.

If we work together, you’ll be hearing from me at every stage. I am not a designer that will disappear for two weeks just to come back with a ‘finished’, template-driven product that doesn’t match the book’s content. Instead, I am communicative with my clients and keep them updated on each step of the book. I do my best to hear and to match the vision that authors have for their books and to avoid bland and template-driven designs that unfortunately permeate the book marketplace. Instead, I strive for unique designs specific to the book. This means more time and work on my end, but the finished products are unique to you and your book.

The Process.

Typically, the first stage involves creating a collaborative moodboard that both myself and the author can add to. This is mostly a collection of other book interiors, colors, illustrations, and other elements that helps give a visual representation of what we might like for this book.

I prefer to start with the first chapter, or up to 10 pages of content and experiement with that small section with different fonts, sizes, etc. When the author approves this first batch of content, I will complete the rest of the book following that style.

Final deliverables include ready-to-upload files for various self-publishing platforms such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Digital2Draft, Lulu, or any other publisher. I will also walk you through the uploading process and will be on standby in case you have any questions.

Formatting Needs May Include…

Interior Formatting

I believe that a book’s interior is just as important as the cover design, and great care should be given to the interior. Good design melds the text and illustrations into a cohesive design that helps to keep readers of all ages and skill level engaged. I work to ensure that the reading experience is both effortless and free of distractions.

New Editions of Previously Published Works

Do you already have a paperback or ebook published, and are looking to publish a new variation of your book? Or are you hoping to publish multiple at once - such as a paperback, hardback, and ebook of the same novel? We can do it all.

Ebook Creation

I can create ebooks that are not only functional across multiple devices and publishing platforms, but that also match your printed book’s style! All the way down to the spacing and typefaces. (Does depend on reader’s device capability and settings)

Custom Typefaces and Formatting

I never use templates in my designs. Each work is custom to the individual book and client. Every choice, from typefaces, spacing, sizes, and everything in between, will be chosen based on your intended audience.

Interior Illustrations & Icons

Want custom icons, hidden easter eggs, pull quotes, or illustrations in your book’s interior? That’s my specialty!

File Preparation

All of my work includes file preparation for self publishing platforms such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Draft2Digital, Lulu, and more. I’ll be with you every step of the way through the publishing process.
