The AVISO

For the 2018-19 and the 2019-20 academic years during my time at university, I was in charge of the print and layout design for the student newsletter. I collaborated every week with our faculty advisor and a group of fellow students including writers, photographers, media editors, copy editors, and public relations specialists.

2019 Redesign

For the 2018-19 volume, the design was based on previous year’s work and design specifications. However, in the spring of 2019, I and a group of other designers worked to redesign The AVISO. We researched other school newsletters in various parts of the country, newspapers and magazines, and went back over 100 years into The AVISO’s own archives to develop a design that had both a strong base in its own unique history and modern elements of our time.

The newsletter had several different names throughout the years, including The Student Messenger, The Soul Winner, and more.

Throughout the archives, we worked to understand the grids and rules used for the various designs, as well as to determine what typefaces and styles were used. We then presented on our findings in order to defend our position.
